4º British: Unit 14 Spanish II Republic and the Civil War

A main topic in our recent History: the Spanish II Republic and the Civil War. Here you have the links you will need for working on it...
If you want more information, you can visit the website “España amanece Republicana”, that the Newspaper “Público” did during the 80º commemoration of the Spanish II Republic.  In addition, you can do an small review with the following games and quiz:

Remember also that, if you like cinema, you have some suggestions about historial movies of this topic in a previous pdf...

4º British: Review for the IGCSE (History of USA)

As you need a deeper study for preparing this topic for Friday’s exam, here there are some complementary links...

Obviously, you can start the review by the BBC-History web with the following article: “The American War of Independence: The Rebels and the Redcoats”.

But, talking about USA, maybe it is a better idea reading edsitement (web of the National Environment for the Humanities). In that link, you can find many lessons, activities and other resources about the following topics:

  • Slavery and African Americans
  • Causes of the Civil War
  • Abrahan Lincoln and the course of the war
  • Art and Literature of the Civil War
  • Reconstruction

As you probably feel overwhelmed with so much information, I recommend you visit only the “Lessons” and, within them, the "Background" section. For example, Lesson 1: On the eve of war (North vs. South)

Finally, you can read the Declaration of Independence of the 13 colonies (full text).

Good luck! J

2º ESO: COMIC

Yes! You have correctly read: your first task for this term is... creating an historical graphic novel! Wow!

It is about to create a short story about one of the topics studied this year: the discovery of America, for example, or the interview between Christopher Columbus and Queen Isabella of Castilla, or the war between Aztec people and Hernán Cortés, etc.

That story must be original (that is, create by your own, not just a copy from another book) and has a minimum of 10 cartoon pannels (viñetas).

There are several apps available but I would recommend Comic Life as it is very easy to use and has a free demo version available for 30 days. You can download it from softonic website.

And what about the images for the cartoon pannels? Do not panic: you can draw them by yourself, take photographs to those lego/playmobil toys you have almost forgotten, or use free online images (from videogames, movies or any other source that suits your porpuse).

When finish, save it as PDF and send the file to acarriles@educa.jcyl.es. Last day: Monday, 24 January.

Enjoy! :)

4º British: e-learning or how to use Moodle

Moodle is a "Virtual Learning Environment", the platform or tool used to provide online courses (in universities, businesses, government ...). It's like bringing class home with Professor inside. Communication is easy, because it has different tools (forums and chat), and different ways of organizing content area (lessons, web, wikis ...), and even activities (surveys, tests ...). And it's free!

Some of the advantages is that the students can work together to resolve questions and solve problems and also can keep improving the content of study and completing the matter according to current needs.

For you to get familiar with this environment and use it well in the future, we will begin to work with it ... and you shall be responsible to upload the contents to the "course", turning you into your own teachers! But obviously, I will be the webmaster and I will decide the final markt... ;-)

How? I created a course called “Avant-garde in the 20th century art”. This course is "closed", meaning only accessible if you are registered with your user name and your password (be carefull not lossing data!). So, nobody outside this class is allowed to participate.

We will completing this "academic course" gradually. As you see, the index and instrucctions are yet organized, and also include the short version of Moodle Manual for Teachers (Read all of these things carefully!). From now on you who will have to go to them completing sections "content and activities". We will use several class sessions to work in the computer lab, but you can (you should) also do some work from home.

Go on! Good luck!

You can see more information on this presentation of Moodle in
Mª Jesús Camino’s blog.

Debate: Million Dollar Baby
