Videojuegos de Historia

¡Ya han llegado las merecidas y esperadas vacaciones! Ha sido un curso intenso pero lo habéis superado estupendamente y ahora sólo os queda disfrutar del verano, ¡Enhorabuena!. Como suele ser habitual en estas fechas, traigo unas recomendaciones (relacionadas con mi asignatura) por si el verano se os hace muy largo y acabáis aburridos ;) En este caso, son varios videojuegos de temática histórica, seleccionados por su rigurosidad y veracidad; es decir, podéis divertiros mientras seguís aprendiendo:

1. Kingdom Come: Deliverance II

Un RPG de mundo abierto ambientado en la Bohemia del siglo XV. El estudio Warhorse trabajó con historiadores, museos y recreadores medievales para recrear con exactitud los escenarios, la vestimenta, el combate y las leyes de la época

2. Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Ambientado en el Japón feudal de 1579 (época Azuchi-Momoyama), con figuras históricas como Oda Nobunaga, Hattori Hanzo, Sen no Rikyū y Yasuke. Ubisoft consultó historiadores, hizo viajes de referencia a Japón y recibió buena recepción por su fidelidad en paisajes y costumbres

3. Last Train Home

Estrategia en tiempo real que narra el épico viaje del Legión Checoslovaca a través de Siberia tras la I Guerra Mundial (1920). El juego se basa en eventos reales de la guerra civil rusa y ofrece un contexto histórico fiel, aunque ha sido criticado en Rusia y China por su retrato de los bolcheviques

4. Manor Lords 

Aunque no se basa en eventos concretos, está cuidadosamente ambientado en un feudo de la baja Edad Media, siguiendo una aproximación muy realista y documental de cómo era la vida en las aldeas feudales de Europa central. El creador, Greg Styczeń, colaboró con historiadores para lograr una representación lo más precisa posible; la arquitectura, por ejemplo, está basada en planos reales de casas, talleres y granjas del siglo XIV. Además, el juego incorpora materiales de excavaciones, museos y grabados medievales, instrumentación de la época, nombres auténticos, y una interfaz sobria y sin anacronismos.

5. Ahoy (en desarrollo pero con acceso de prueba)

Como bonus, traigo este juego de aventuras navales ambientado en el Caribe del siglo XVIII. Utiliza planos, artefactos y terminología marítima auténtica. Aún en Kickstarter, promete un mundo abierto donde gestionar tripulación, comercio y combates navales con gran fidelidad

As usually, here you have several links to videogames (mostly from BBC) about topics studied this year in our History classes. Enjoy the summer-time!

Gladiator: Dressed to Kill

This game has the player choose the correct armor for three different types of Roman gladiators within a time limit. Each gladiator then fights and wins or loses based on what the player’s choices were.

The Mummy Maker 

Test your knowledge of history with an interactive challenge. Enter the embalmer’s workshop and prepare a body for burial.

Death in Rome

This game presents the user with a scene where a Roman dies and the user then has to figure out how the Roman died. The player uses evidence from the scene and information both from witnesses and modern experts.

Pyramid Challenge

This game presents the user with a series of challenges related to building a pyramid for the Egyptian Pharaoh. The construction of the pyramid succeeds or fails based on the player’s decisions.

Anglo-Saxon Coins

In this game you learn stories behind the coins and try to make “money talk.”

Now that we have finished this topic at class, it is a good moment to remind you that, apart from theory, you can also learn some things by playing these free online games:

Our war: interactive episode (From BBC 3). A cool simulation in which you can take your own decissions as a sargeant. 

Over the top (From Canadian War Museum). Experience the life in trenches first hand.

1º British: Would you pass the Spartan education?

In this link from the British Museum of London you can face some of the exercises that a young spartian boy should pass if he wanted to survive and become a real Spartian soldier. Think fast! Time is running out!

4º British: Unit 10 Industrial Revolution

Here you have the links for the new theoretical unit: The Industrial Revolution, and its Glossary. As the Industrial Revolution is a main topic for the IGSCE, you should prepare some optional extra work.

Firstly, watch the Modern Times, by Chaplin (1936) to understand, humorously, the mechanization of production and the assembly-line process in a factory. It is only the first part of the movie (about 20 minutes).

Secondly, visit the BBC Radio to hear an interesting and very complete audio about Industrial Rev. (Radio-recorder from 23 December 2010). Lasting about 43 minutes.

FELICES VACACIONES DE VERANO!!!

1º de E.S.O. es un curso difícil: nuevo instituto, nuevos compañeros, nuevos profesores… pero lo habéis superado bien! Al menos la mayoría ;-) Y como premio, aquí os dejo los enlaces a un par de juegos para el verano (que, por supuesto, están relacionados con la asignatura de Sociales!)

La espada de madera: supongo que todos habéis jugado alguna vez con los playmobiles, no? Pues aquí va una de romanos. Mejor dicho, de gladiadores romanos! Tenéis que vencer todos los combates para ganar la espada de madera y así conseguir la libertad. Tarda un poco en empezar, así que… paciencia! Hay un vídeo de 2 minutos y luego ya empieza el juego… son 5 pruebas, suerte!

Travian: es un juego de estrategia online que además se juega en tiempo real. Se trata de crear un reino y hacerlo crecer… si los rivales te dejan! Además aquí puedes escoger qué quieres ser: romano, galo o germano.
