3º & 4º British: your exam!

Hello everybody!

As previously explained, this term you will have an alternative to exam. To get the 60% of the mark this term you will write a special essay (that is, your opinion) about a specifical topic. And today is the day!

Read carefully the following newspaper article: Geopolitics after covid-19 (in Spanish). Yes, it is long (7 pages) but after all this activity is replacing an exam so it should be a bit demanding, don’t you think so?

You have to write an essay with your personal opinion about it. Do you agree or desagree with the article? Why? What is the sentence o fragment that shock you the most and why? As is “opinion”, all answers will be valid BUT remember that you must write fully developed and well argumented explanations, ok?

Specifical requirements:

The essay must contain minimun 40 lines (times new roman 12 – simple line spacing, as in the article) and must be sent in pdf format.

You must also include comments to the following sentences:

• “La última fase de la globalización comenzó en 1989 y quizás termine hoy, con el coronavirus”. (Page 1 - line nº 24) Do you think that the economy will change after this situation? Why?

• “Las plagas afectan con distinta intensidad a diferentes clases socioeconómicas” (Page 3 - line nº 2) Do you agree or disagree? Why? If yes, how?

• “Quedan claras las prioridades del globalismo: por encima de la propia vida humana está el dinero”. (Page 3 - line nº 37) Do you agree or disagree? Why?

• “El espacio hispano-americano como el espacio euro-mediterráneo, que deberían unirse en defensa de la idea de solidaridad, comunidad y pacto inter-generacional”. (Page 6 - line nº 6) Do you agree or disagree? Why? Do you think that those institutions would work better than the European Union? Why?

• To sum up your essay, answer the article’s final question: ¿La sociedad al servicio de la economía, o la economía al servicio de la sociedad? (Page 7 - line nº 7)

3º-4º British: updated news IGCSE

Good news! Finally TODAY I have received the confirmation about the process for the IGCSE Geography & History exams: the process of convalidation will be similar to English as First language. 

Although Cambridge will take the final decission over your mark, at the end it will be based on your score in my subject; that means that we must continue with the scheduled plan: lessons, monthly works, etc. 

Don't give up and work hard this term! :)

As you already known, you will be asked to give a real and detailed example of any topic in the IGCSE exams. As these questions are the most valuable in the exam (7 marks!), you have to be sure to prepare a good revision.

Would you pass an Oxford University exam?

Oxford and Cambridge are some of the most famous (and demanding) universities in the world. Their difficult access exams are also well-known and now, thanks to the following link, you can read some examples of the Oxford exam questions. As you can see, there is not only one correct answer; even more, the important point here is not the answer in itself but your thoughtful thinking. That is: your ability for finding the deep cause of a problem, for selecting and linking ideas,  for giving and explaining reasons and consequences, and for expressing in a rational way your reflections.

Causes, consequences, reasoning ability... does they sound familiar to you? Yes! In class, you are being trained in all of them! So don't worry, at the end of the academic year, you will be able to pass your IGCSE - Cambridge exam!

3º and 4º British: IGCSE Exams

Cambridge IGCSE is the world’s most popular international curriculum for 14-16 year olds. Cambridge IGCSE is taken in over 100 countries worldwide and are widely accepted by higher education institutions and employers around the world as evidence of academic ability.

Cambridge IGCSE develops learners’ skills in creative thinking, enquiry and problem solving, and even introducing cross-curricular perspectives, giving learners excellent preparation for the next stage in their education.

The students will take examinations in May/June 2013. If you are thinking about them, you can visit the following sites:

Historia del Arte en la P.A.U.: los temas teóricos

Como ya hemos comentado en clase, el temario de arte está dividido en dos partes:

- Parte I: Arte Antiguo, Medieval y Renacimiento
- Parte II: Del arte Barroco hasta el siglo XX, ambos inclusive

Y cada opción del examen de P.A.U. se organiza en base a ello:

- Opción A: temas teóricos de la Parte I, y fotos de la Parte II
- Opción B: temas teóricos de la Parte II, y fotos de la Parte I

De esta forma, el examen de P.A.U. cubre todo el temario, así que debéis llevarlo todo bien preparado porque no hay “escapatoria”…

Con las fotos no hay problemas, ya habéis hecho muchos comentarios en clase y sabéis perfectamente cómo enfrentaros a ellas. Pero los temas teóricos no están tan trabajados, además de que en la P.A.U. suelen ser más extensos que en los exámenes de clase, así que lo mejor será practicar un poco. Como deberes para vacaciones (esta vez, con carácter voluntario) os propongo elaborar un tema teórico de los ya estudiados. Para que veáis algunos ejemplos, os dejo este pdf con los temas teóricos en CyL en los últimos años.

De todas formas, podéis consultar todos los exámenes (convocatorias de junio y septiembre) de todas las asignaturas, desde el 2004, en la web de la USAL.

Y como recomendación final: calculad que, en la P.A.U., el tema teórico deberá llevaros aproximadamente media hora escribiendo, y cada foto unos veinte minutos. Así completáis la hora y media de examen.

Pautas para el primer examen de Historia del Arte

En el examen tendréis que responder un tema teórico (habrá dos opciones, para escoger una) y comentar 3 obras de arte (habrá 4 imágenes, todas ellas vistas en clase, pero NO exclusivas de los comentarios que os he ido pidiendo…).

Para que podáis calcular mejor el tiempo durante el examen, se recomienda que dediquéis 15 o 20 minutos a cada imagen, y el tiempo restante (unos 30 minutos aproximadamente) al tema teórico.

Nadie podrá abandonar el aula antes de que suene el timbre de las 14:30. A partir de ese momento, quien haya terminado el examen puede irse; los demás podrán quedarse hasta las 15:00.

Como os decía en clase, la tendencia en los exámenes PAU de Castilla y León es que los temas teóricos sean cada vez más extensos y amplios. Para que os hagáis una idea, en el examen de Junio de 2010, la opción A presentaba los siguientes temas teóricos (para escoger uno):

- El arte románico: características generales. Arquitectura en el Camino de Santiago (San Martín de Frómista y Santiago de Compostela). Escultura monumental: portadas y claustros (San Isidoro de León. El Pórtico de la Gloria. Santo Domingo de Silos). Pintura mural (Tahull. Panteón Real de San Isidoro de León. Santa Cruz de Maderuelo).

- El Cinquecento. Arquitectura (Bramante, Miguel Ángel y Palladio). Escultura (Miguel Ángel). Pintura (Leonardo, Miguel Ángel, Rafael y Tiziano).

Como veis, conseguir resumir todo eso en media hora tiene muchísimo mérito, por eso es tan importante llevarlo bien preparado y no tener que perder demasiado tiempo en “pensar” qué y cómo se va a escribir…

Para facilitaros un poco el proceso, empezaremos con temas más acotados, por ejemplo:

- Los órdenes de la arquitectura griega

- El templo griego: el ejemplo paradigmático del Partenón

- La escultura griega del siglo V aC: Policleto y Fidias

- La escultura romana: el retrato y el relieve histórico

- Roma: arquitectura y urbanismo

- El arte paleocristiano hasta Justiniano

- La basílica y los orígenes de la iconografía cristiana

- La arquitectura bizantina a través de los ejemplos de Santa Sofía de Constantinopla y San Vital de Ravena.

Finalmente, recordaros que la puntuación en los exámenes durante el curso se repartirá así:

- tema teórico: un máximo de 5’5 puntos

- cada comentario de una obra de arte, 1’5 puntos. Es decir, 3 obras sumarán un máximo de 4’5 puntos.

- Las faltas de ortografía tienen penalización: se restará 0’1 punto `por cada falta, hasta un máximo de 10 faltas (es decir, se puede llegar a perder hasta 1 punto completo).

Exámenes de Septiembre

YA ESTÁN AQUÍ LAS FECHAS DE LOS EXÁMENES DE SEPTIEMBRE!!!

1º eso: jueves 1 sept. a las 11: 30, en el aula de 1ºA

2º eso: también el jueves 1 sept. a las 11:30, pero en el aula de 1ºC

Para ir preparándolo, os dejo las normas (y algunas pistas) sobre cómo serán esos exámenes de sociales... Mucha suerte!

Para aquellos alumnos que tengan suspensa la asignatura de CIENCIAS SOCIALES, la prueba de recuperación de septiembre consistirá en un EXAMEN ESCRITO DE CARÁCTER GLOBAL.

Dicho examen será de características similares a los realizados durante el curso, es decir, incluirá preguntas de varios tipos (verdadero/falso, preguntas cortas, una foto, etc.). El examen será valorado de acuerdo a lo estipulado en la Programación del Departamento (contenidos mínimos y criterios de calificación, que ya conocéis bien).

1º E.S.O.

En el examen entrarán todos los contenidos de Geografía (temas 1 al 7) y de Historia (temas 10 al 17) explicados y trabajados en clase, además de esquemas y apuntes proporcionados por el profesor a lo largo del curso.

En la parte de Geografía habrá una pregunta de localización geográfica, por lo que se recomienda repasar bien el trabajo de mapas realizado en la 1ª evaluación (España, Europa, América, África y Asia). Cada uno de esos mapas valdrá 0’5 puntos en el examen. También habrá una pregunta para localizar coordenadas geográficas, por lo que conviene repasar las páginas 14 y 15 del libro de texto, haciendo sus actividades.

2º E.S.O.

En el examen entrarán todos los contenidos de Historia explicados y trabajados en clase(temas 1 al 9 del libro de texto), además de apuntes y esquemas proporcionados por la profesora a lo largo del curso. Los temas 10 y 11, aunque fueron explicados en clase, NO entrarán en el examen.
