Mini-survey: feedback for online classes

Hello everybody!

To help me design the online classes for the next academic year, please answer this survey: only 4 questions! (the last one is an open question where you can freely write your comments or suggestions). It is anonymous and will not have repercussion on your mark.

It will be available during this June.

Thank you! :)

4º British: Create your Historical Newspaper!

Imagine that you are living in London in the year 1914...

Your new task is to create the front page of a newspaper.

Choose one template from this zip file (all the templates are in word format), choose a name and... complete it with the monthly news that you consider more remarkable (you can use the examples of this list or search for other real events that happened in 1914 in any part of the world). And something the that you would find very useful: the BBC I World War Archives!

You HAVE TO include a minimum of 4 different pieces of news and 1 advertisement (historically accurate to that year). Besides, there must be at least 2 illustrations (a drawing, an engraving...) and 2 primary sources (eg. Extract from a real speech of a politician or a real satirical cartoon from that year)

You can do this activity by your onw or in pairs. When finish, please convert it to PDF format and send it as attached file to acarriles@educa.jcyl.es. The deadline is Thursday, 10 February

This work is mandatory and will be part of the score at the end of the term. If you fail to finish it, do it out of date, or just copy&paste from a webpage, the mark will be a 0 for this work.

Be creative and enjoy it!

British: e-learning or how to use Moodle

Moodle is a "Virtual Learning Environment", the platform or tool used to provide online courses (in universities, businesses, government ...). It's like bringing class home with Professor inside. Communication is easy, because it has different tools (forums and chat), and different ways of organizing content area (lessons, web, wikis ...), and even activities (surveys, tests ...). And it's free!

Some of the advantages is that the students can work together to resolve questions and solve problems and also can keep improving the content of study and completing the matter according to current needs.

Probably, you are now familiar with this environment thanks to our own IES but... would you like to go deeper inside? That's your new task... and you shall be responsible to upload the contents to the "course", turning you into your own teachers! But obviously, I will be the webmaster and I will decide the final markt... ;-)

How? I created a special course called:

These courses are "closed", meaning only accessible if you are registered with your user name and your password (be carefull not lossing data!). So, nobody outside the class is allowed to participate.

We will completing this "academic course" gradually. As you see, the index and instrucctions are yet organized, and also include the short version of Moodle Manual for Teachers (Read all of these things carefully!). From now on you who will have to go to them completing sections "content and activities". We will use several class sessions to work in the computer lab, but you can also do some work from home.

Go on! Good luck!

News in Education: What is PBL?

PBL (Project Based Learning) is a main option in the 21th Education. Projects vary in length, from several days to several weeks or even a semester, but it can always motivate students:

  • Is intended to teach significant content
  • Requires critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, and various forms of communicationTo answer a Driving Question and create high-quality work, students need to do much more than remember information. They need to use higher-order thinking skills and learn to work as a team, be able to read a variety of material, write or otherwise express themselves in various modes, and make effective presentations.
  • Requires inquiry as part of the process.
  • Is organized around an open-ended Driving QuestionThis focuses students’ work and deepens their learning by framing important issues, debates, challenges or problems.
  • Creates a need to know essential content and skills. PBL reverses the order in which information and concepts are traditionally presented: it begins with the vision of an end product or presentation. This creates a context and reason to learn and understand the information and concepts.
  • Allows some degree of student voice and choiceStudents learn to work independently and take responsibility when they are asked to make choices.
  • Includes processes for revision and reflectionStudents learn to give and receive feedback in order to improve the quality of the products they create, and are asked to think about what and how they are learning.
  • Involves a public audience. Students present their work to other people, beyond their classmates and teacher – in person or online.

We will do a PBL activity next term...
be prepared to learn and have fun!

4º British: Italian Unification

You are living in Italy in the year 1870...

Once you have identified the major issues/problems and possible solutions to Italian unification, your team will then create a complete publicity campaign to inform the Italian people how these issues relate to nationalism and liberalism.

This product can be in the form of a poster, newscast, digital newspaper, video, comic or a product of your choice. If your team has an original idea, you must pass it by me first. Your final product must include three or more specific examples from Italian unification to support your campaign. Use information, pictures, movies, facts, opinions, etc. from the webpages you explored to convince your teammates. All sources you use must be documented (add a “Webgraphy section” to your work...).

You have to send the final task to blogeducativo08@gmail.com. The deadline will be Tuesday 26 November. This work is mandatory and will be part of the score at the end of the term. If you fail to finish it, do it out of date, or just copy from a webpage, the mark will be a 0 for this work.

Be creative and enjoy it! J

e-learning: aprende a usar moodle
